D&D Player vs. Player (PVP) Play by Post Is Coming Soon

D&D PVP Coming Soon

We will be launching a Player vs. Player (PVP) Play by Post experience on our Discord Server!

Have you ever wanted to go toe to toe with another player in D&D? We’re creating an extension of our Play by Post experience where you can do just that.

How will PVP Work?

We’re envisioning a PVP coliseum of sorts. Multiple battlefields with interesting, interactive terrain.  There will be spectators (other IRL people) as well as an officiator to moderate the results. There may be NPC’s played by community moderators Players will be able to bring their existing characters from other Play by Post games on our server.

In the beta phase, combats will be simple 1:1 PVP challenges.  As we get our bearings, we aim to introduce a bracket system, and real IRL prizes for the winners!

I’m Interested! Where Can I sign up?

Right now we’re in pre-beta testing. To get notified as soon as we launch PVP, please hop on our Discord, and jump down to the “Cloud-iseum Landing Page Channel” and add a reaction to the post there. We’ll ensure to get a notification to you via discord when battles open up!  (Note that you need to hit up the main “Gateway” page to thumbs up the community guidelines to get in to that channel, if you’re having trouble. ) In the meantime, feel free to start musing with character concepts that you might want to play in a PVP arena. I imagine we’ll start our first league at level 3 with all published D&D content being fair game, no homebrew.  We’d love to hear about these cool character concepts you may have in the comments section below.

Have Questions about the PVP Play by Post Experience? Read on.

If I Lose in PVP, Does my Character… Die?

Not Necessarily.  We’re going to play it up that there are healers on deck to patch up “knocked out” competitors after they go down.  That said, the rule of cool is definitely in effect. If you feel like it would be awesome for your character to walk away with some permanent battle scars, PTSD, or other quirks from the coliseum, go for it!  If you’re creating a character just for gladiatorial purposes and you want perma-death to be a thing for you… that’s cool.

Will Interactions in the PVP Arena affect my Character That is in a Campaign?

If you’re already playing in one of our games, generally, the PVP interactions will be separate and not impact your campaign character. This is open to DM / Players to dabble and change how they see fit in their campaigns. Work with your DM. You are very welcome to create a new character just for the areana.

But Some Classes are OP at Combat. How will You Balance That?

We’re going to have some and error on this front.  Let’s have some fun and see how game play works out and adjust as needed.  Try not to think about it too much… just get in there, talk some smack, and get your PVP dice rolling going.

Is there a Cost?

Our campaigns on our Play by Post server are on a subscription basis and come with great perks, the PVP we’re creating here will be, for the foreseeable future, totally free.

How will Dice Rolls Work?

We use a cool bot on our D&D server called Avrae. It shows virtual dice rolls right in channel.

Is this PVP thing D&D Beginner Friendly?

We love D&D beginners! But no… competing in PVP is probably not the place where you want to learn the ropes on how to play D&D.  We’d recommend instead, getting started with some solo missions in one of our campaigns on the Discord server. There are campaigns with open player slots and free trials available right now.

What System Will We be Running?

D&D Fifth Edition

What Kind of Character May I Roll for This?

Any D&D officially published race/class (except no fly, or burrow speeds. You may choose these classes but their fly/burrow speeds will be “broken”). No Homebrew. Level 3. Multiclassing is fine. Up to 100G in mundane items. No Magic or wondrous items. No homebrew.

How About Stat Generation?

Go with a standard array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 before racial adjustments. THEN, add +1 to any stat.
